STAKEHOLDERS’ EXTOL NIGERIAN ARMY

        The Nigerian Army has continued to receive more support and show of solidarity from reputable organizations, both from within and outside the country. This is evident in the confidence and achievements made so far by the new leadership of the Nigerian Army headed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai.

The Management of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) has today commended the Nigerian Army for the wonderful progress made in the ongoing fight against terrorism. The Executive Director, North, Mr Dan Okeke, who represented the Group Managing Director, made the commendation when he led other Management Staff of the bank on a courtesy visit to the COAS at the Army Headquarters.

Mr Okeke stated that the bank is happy and willing to work with the Nigerian Army and pledged their total support for the Army’s effort toward eradicating terrorism in the country.  He further stated that the Nigerian Army and the bank have had a long lasting relationship and promised that they will key into the vision of the COAS in the current fight against insurgency.  He further assured the COAS that the bank will continue to carry out its corporate social responsibilities within the barracks community and thanked him for the audience given to them despite short notice.

Responding, the COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, thanked them for the visit, promising that the Nigerian Army would partner with all stakeholders in ensuring peace to every parts of the country. He commended the bank for the professional manner in which they are carrying out their operations. General Buratai assured that the Nigerian Army will soon bring insurgency in the country to a logical conclusion in line with the Presidential directive.

Present during the visit were some Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters as well as Management Staff of the bank.
 
In a related development, the Management of Shell Producing Development Company (SPDC), led by the Country Chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria/ Managing Director, SPDC, Mr Osagie Okunbor also paid a courtesy visit on the COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai at the Army Headquarters.

Speaking during the visit, Mr Okunbor congratulated the COAS for his appointment, stressing that the Shell family was particularly proud of him, considering his wealth of experience. He pointed that the Nigerian Army is playing a critical role in the country by providing security for vital national assets and called for strengthening of the symbiotic relationship already existing between them while applauding the Nigerian Army for their continued support despite fighting Boko Haram insurgency in the North East and commended the leadership qualities as well as the troops for the successes recorded since his assumption of office.

In his response, the COAS thanked the visiting SPDC team for their support and show of solidarity, adding that the protection of pipelines require the cooperation of all good citizens of Nigeria.
He however promised that the synergy between the two institutions will continue to be strengthened to enable the fight against criminal elements in the Niger Delta region be won. The COAS further assured them that his vision for the Nigerian Army which is “To have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles” is already translating into defeating Boko Haram terrorists in the North East as well as fighting oil thieves in the Niger Delta.

Present during the visit were the some Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters, Commander, Operation PULO SHIELD, Acting General Officer Commanding, 82 Division, Commander, 2 Brigade, amongst others.

Similarly, the Dangote Group led by the Group Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, Mr DVD Edwin also paid a courtesy visit to the COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai at the Army Headquarters.

Speaking during the visit, Mr Edwin applauded the Nigerian Army for the remarkable successes so far achieved by the Nigerian Army in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists, stressing that Nigerians were happy with the good work the Army is doing under his watch. He also commended the leadership qualities of the COAS, adding that this has shown in the achievements recorded since his assumption of office.

    Responding, the COAS thanked them for the visit and commended the Dangote Group for the tremendous progress they are making across the continent. The COAS further stated that the role of the Army is special and assured that the fight against insurgency will soon come to a victorious end.
