GANDUJE COMMISSIONS N137 MILLION NAIRA WATER TREATMENT PLANT

GANDUJE COMMISSIONS N137 MILLION NAIRA WATER TREATMENT PLANT

Kano state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Gandaje has commissioned the Garun Malam Water Treatment Plant, constructed by the state government at the cost of N137 million, in Garun Malam, headquarters of the local government area in the state.

Commissioning the project at Fada Bakin Ruwa in the area, on Sunday, the governor said that already the water has started flowing in the six wards expected to benefit from the water works.

Dr. Ganduje pointed out that the project was conceived during the first tenure of former Governor Kwankwaso 12 years ago, lamenting that "this project was abandoned, bastardized and neglected simply because there was an input of our previous government”.

He added, "But when we came back from our political sabbatical leave (2011), God in His wisdom reminded us that this is our project, therefore, the former Governor Kwankwaso revisited the situation and revived the project. He directed that this time around, the project would not be a joint project between the state and local government but would solely be under taken by the state government," the governor maintained.

He, therefore, urged the local government authority to carefully maintain the project, hoping that the water works would be put to good use by the indigenes of the area.

Dr Ganduje further assured the people of Garun Malam that present administration would do everything possible to ensure they have enough and affordable fertilizer for rainy and dry season farming, adding that the ongoing five kilometers and other road projects in the domain would be considered for completion by present administration.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Water Resources, Usman Sule Riruwai said the plant is expected to supply 2.4 million liters daily, pointing out that it would easy to operate and maintain by the local government.

The local government chairman and the district head, Malam Sa'adu Abashe and Sarkin Fulanin Ja'idinawa, Alhaji Abubukar Gwadabe Buhari respectively thanked the state government for completing the project, appealing for rehabilitation of dilapidated roads in the domain for easy transportation of farm products to markets.
