GANDUJE DONATES N88. 5 MILLION TO VICTIMS OF INSURGENCY
Kano
state government has presented donation of the sum of N88.5 million to
289 people affected by insurgency attacks separately, at Kano Central
Mosque, Kwari Market and Hotoro Fueling Station in Kano city, sometime
last year.
Presenting
cheques of the respective amount to the victims, based on death or
injury at Africa House, Kano Government House on Sunday, state governor,
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the government decided to assist the
victims in order to alleviate their suffering.
Dr.
Ganduje explained that the long time taken before the presentation of
the assistance was as a result of series of verification to ascertain
the actual number of victims and the magnitude of their of injury or
death.
The
governor disclosed that families of each of those that lost their lives
would be assisted with N500, 000 while the injured would receive N100,
000 each, pointing out that the widow of a gallant police officer who
lost his life while protecting people from insurgents attack at Hotoro
Fueling Station would be given N1.5 million.
He
prayed to Almighty God to protect the state and its people as well as
the nation at large from recurrence insurgency in the future, expressing
confidence that President Muhammad Buhari is determined and committed
to end terrorism in the country.
Earlier
chairman of the Victims’ verification committee, Prof. Isa Hashim told
the victims and their representatives that only those whose names are
verified would be assisted, noting that others who did not make the list
would be contacted later.
Also
speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Rabi’u Sulaiman
Bichi said the delay for the payment of the assistance was course due
to careful scrutiny of the victims.
Representatives
of the victims, Sharif Muhammad and Habiba Hassan respectively thanked
the state government for the concern and assistance, assuring to
continue supporting the government to serve better.
