TERRORISM: Nigeria, UK Armies Team Up On Training



Army, UK”s Counterpart To Collaborate In Training


The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant   General   Tukur   Buratai  has disclosed that Nigerian and United Kingdom Armies have resolved to collaborate particularly in the area of training.
Buratai made   this   known   during   a courtesy   call   on   him   by   the   General   Officer   Commanding,   1st Division  United   Kingdom   Army,   Major   General Giles   Hill   at   the Army Headquarters.
The   COAS   thanked   the   GOC   and   his   entourage   for   the   visit, emphasizing that the two countries will continue to improve on the already existing bilateral relationship between them and pledged the   Nigerian   Army’s   readiness   to   cooperate   and   work   with   the United Kingdom.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sani Kukasheka Usman, Buratai assured General Hill of the Nigerian Army’s determination to end Boko Haram terrorists soon and commended the troops in the frontline for the good work they are doing
The   COAS   also   used   the   opportunity   to   request   the   GOC’s assistance in facilitating  operational planning workshops for  the Commanding Officers of the Nigerian Army, adding that since his assumption of office, the cooperation between the Nigerian Army and   the   British   Military   Assistance   Training   Team   has   been commendable. Speaking earlier, the GOC congratulated the COAS for his recent appointment, stressing that the bilateral relationship between the two   countries   would   be   maintained. 
 He   also   commended   the Nigerian Army in its efforts in fighting Boko Haram terrorists, and pledged his country’s readiness to assist Nigeria in developing long term capacity building particularly in the area of security.
General Hill further expressed the United Kingdom government’s willingness   to   offer   training   opportunity   for   Nigerian   Army personnel on Counter Insurgency Operations.
