Governor
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has appealed to security agencies
in the state to toughen surveillance, to prevent possible migration of
insurgents, being dispersed from Sambisa forest, to the state.
“Because
Kano is cosmopolitan, the insurgents being dispersed may look for
places to relocate. Places like Kano could be their target so you must
deploy your expertise to prevent them from escaping”, the governor
asserted.
Dr.
Ganduje made the call while receiving the state’s new Commissioner of
Police, Muhammad Musa Katsina, who visited him at the Government House
on Thursday, assuring
that his administration would give priority attention to coordinated
efforts with security agencies, to make the state secure.
On
the issue of cattle rustling, the governor revealed that governors of
the North western states are handling it from a regional approach,
pointing out that a blueprint to address the problem would soon be
produced.
The
governor, who lamented the insecurity in the Falgore forest and its
environs promised to support the police to rid the area of bandits. He
also dwelt on the issue of drug abuse and the efforts by the state
government to fish out and take legal action against dealers of illicit
drugs.
In
his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Musa Katsina told the
governor that the state command sis mapping out strategies to deal with
criminal activities at Falgore forest and beef up security along the 36
kilometer Falgore – Doguwa road.
He
disclosed that already, the command has secured a site to train special
officers to deal with cattle rustling, soliciting the support of local
hunters, vigilantes and community members to achieve the set goals.
Commissioner
Muhammad Katsina also promised to tackle the issue of drug abuse among
youth, and lately, married women, warning that in prosecuting the anti
drug war, anybody found culpable would not be spared.
