PERSONAL DETAILS

AVM SB Abubakar was born on 8 April 1960 at Azare in Bauchi State. He had his primary education at St Paul’s Primary School Bauchi     from 1967 to 1973 and his secondary education at GSS Bauchi. HE joined the Nigerian Air Force as a member of CMTC 5 in November 1979.

APPOINTMENTS HELD

AVM Abubakar was the Commander NAF Stn Maiduguri,      CO 207 Wing and Acting Commanding Officer, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Air Wing. He also served as a Directing Staff (DS) in both Junior and Senior Divisions of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College. The senior officer was also a Directing Staff at the National Defence College. AVM SB Abubakar was the Group Operation Officer (GOO) of 97 Special Operation Group from 2007 to 2008 and     Commander 97 Special Operation Group (SOG) PH from 2009 to 2011. He was also the Air Component Commander OPERATION RESTORE HOPE. Air Vice Marshall Abubakar was the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO)  Mobility Command from Feb 11 to 6  Jun 12 and SASO  Tactical Air Command from 6 Jun 12 to Nov 12. He was appointed the Chief of Standards and Evaluation Nigerian Air Force Headquarters from 8 Nov 12     to 31 Dec 13. He was also the Air Officer Commanding Training Command and was appointed Chief of Defence Communications DHQ from Jan 14 to Jan 15. Currently, AVM Abubakar is the Chief of Administration at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force before his appointment as the 20th Chief of the Air Staff.

COURSES ATTENDED

The senior Officer had his primary flying training at the then PFTW from 1980 to Dec 81. After graduating as the Best all Round and the Best in Flying Cadet in Dec 81, AVM Abubakar proceeded to Oxford Air Training School, England for Basic Flying Training. The senior Officer has a tactical type rating on Mi-35p Helicopter gunship and is a Training Captain on the aircraft. AVM Abubakar was also type-rated on the Mi-17. He was a member of JD Course 33 and was also a member of the then Command and Staff College Course 21. AVM SB Abubakar was a participant at the then National War College from Sep 06 to Aug 07.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

AVM Abubakar has a Diploma in Public administration and a Bachelors of Science degree (second class upper Div) in political science. The senior officer also has a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from University of Ibadan. AVM SB Abubakar has a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Helicopters with Instrument Rating. The Senior Officer has flown a total of 7 aircraft types: Bulldog, Piper Warrior, Enstrom, Bell 206,        BO-105, Mi-35P and Mi- 17.

AWARDS

The officer was awarded the Best Officer of the Year Tactical Air Command 1997. AVM SB Abubakar was also awarded CAS Letter of Commendation for good leadership and prudent management of resources by Air Marshal O O Petinrin in 2009 and Air Marshall MD Umar in 2011. He was also awarded CAS Special Award by Air Chief Marshal AS Badeh in 2013. AVM Abubakar has been an External Examiner at the National Defence College from 2010 to date. He also chaired the Participant’s Project Defence Panel from 2012 to 2014.

MARRITAL STATUS AND HOBBIES

AVM SB Abubakar is married with children and his hobbies include reading, traveling and studying nature.
