KANO TO SEEK WAYS OF IMPROVING IGR - GANDUJE
 
Kano state government plans re-invent the state Board of Internal Revenue to enable it make the state internally generated revenue the dependable alternative to Federation Account allocations.
 
The state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made this known while receiving the report of the Committee set up by the government on Internally Generated Revenue, at the Government House in Kano.
 
Governor Ganduje explained that the renewed vigour of his administration to generate more money is largely because of dwindling resources from the Federal government, the need to upgrade Kano to a standard mega city and the government’s focus on accountability and zero tolerance of corruption.
 
“We take this issue of revenue very seriously. We shall, therefore, explore alternative sources of revenue generation professionalize the way we acquire our revenues so that our set goals will be achieved’, the governor maintained. 
 
He assured that the government would seriously pursue implementation of the committee’s report and thanked its members for a job well-done. The governor also appealed for cooperation and understanding of the people in the quest to strengthen the financial base of the state. 
 
Presenting the report, the chairman of the committee and the state Commissioner of Finance, Prof. Kabiru Isa Dandago, stressed the need for the government to implement the Kano state Revenue Administration Law 2010 with all its provisions and the need to centralize revenue collection in the state to a single revenue account.
 
The committee, according to the chairman, among other things, also recommended the establishment of a technical committee to implement the consolidated action plan to restructure and reposition the state Board of Internal Revenue in line with international best practices.
