Kano
state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje although dwindling resources
have compelled the government to look inwards for more money to execute
development programmes, it would not do so at the expense of service
providing institutions.
Dr.
Ganduje who stated this while receiving the management of Dala
Orthopedic Hospital in his office indicated that the government would
look into the possibility of making concessions to some agencies, in
terms of revenue, in view of the social services they provide.
He
assured that the state government would see how it can promote
patronage of the services of the hospital, promising that the
administration would be happy to partner with the hospital towards
improving the well being of the citizenry.
At
the moment, he stated that the government is working towards addressing
the flooding problem affecting the visiting of the hospital, adding
that efforts would also be made to address other problems facing it
particular the problem of huge water bills and the contention with the
state Board of Internal Revenue.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Muhammad
Nuhu Salihu told the governor that the hospital renders sundry
orthopedic services which some people seek aboard, adding that it is
willing to release 10 of its medical personnel monthly, to render
specialist services in Kano state government hospitals, especially at
Murtala Muhammad Specialist hospital.
He
explained although the hospital’s charges are seen by many as very
expensive, the fees are informed by the need to render superior quality
services since its subvention from the Federal government has been
reduced significantly.
Dr.
Salihu appealed to the governor to wade into the disagreement between
hospital and the state Board of Internal Revenue, in respect of some
unremitted deductions from some staff, explaining that the
non-remittance of the revenue was due to an administrative problem that
would soon be sorted out.
