Chris Anyanwu Assaulted In Prison
President Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that Senator Chris Anyanwu was assaulted by a warder while serving her jail term in Jos prison under the jackboot of the expired tyrant, Sani Abacha.
Anyanwu was among some people who were arrested, tried and jailed by the Abacha junta for participating in a coup that never was.
Obasanjo made this disclosure in his latest book, MY WATCH Volume 1 chapter 28 titled "THE PRISON EXPERIENCE".
The chapter begins with their departure to their various prisons after they had been found guilty by the kangarooic panel set up by Abacha.
His words: "We landed in Jos in the early afternoon. I was earmarked for Josand had to disembark in Jos. Chris Anyanwu also had to disembark in Jos or whether Jos was a transit point. I had known Chris as a media lady and a proprietor of a weekly magazine, TSM. When she was to begin the production of that magazine, she had approached me to invest or participate in the establishment by putting money in it. I declined but directed her to someone who might be interested in investing in the magazine. She followed up, and it worked for her, as she reported to me later,
Chris, Beko, and a few others were not charged for planning a coup as I was- I believe that they were charged for aiding coup culprits or something similar. We entered Jos prison and the gate of the prison was closed behind us. We immediately became inmates. The routine had to be followed. We were well searched down to our underwear and everything we brought was clinically inspected...
"Meanwhile, Chris was taken away for a while, and when she came back, she was in tears. I had to talk to her to cheer her up. I told her that the man who put us in prison wanted us to weep, and we should not oblige him and give him the joy of hearing that we were weeping. We should, in fact, make him unhappy by making ourselves happy. Chris stopped and wiped away her eyes and told me that she had been rudely and mercilessly searched all over; a female warder had even dipped her fingers into the most private part of her body. From there we were moved, Chris to the female section of the prison and I to my cell," Obasanjo recalled.
speaking further, Obasanjo said; "Later Chris Anyanwu was dispatched to Gombe, which was to be her prison, but she was apprehensive as she did not know what lay ahead of her. We all shared her apprehension. But within weeks of Chris leaving Jos for Gombe, one of the prison officials in Jos was transferred to Gombe to take over. He had known Chris in Jos and we urge him to give her special care. I learned he did just that."
