Gbajabiamila Laughs Last, Named House Leader
...The intrigues behind the scene
After a protected crises which had thrown the House of Representatives since its inauguration after Yakubu Dogara emerged the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila today has been named the majority leader, in a move likely to restore sanity.
Sani Zorro, the interim spokesman of the Green Chamber attributed the new development to the 20 minutes intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
As a result, former National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists said with the reconciliation, "You will agree with me that President Buhari is not a dictator as the opposition is trying to label him. President Buhari is a game changer."
The emergence of the Lagos state lawmaker became a reality after the House Leaders met with the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
It was at the meeting that the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun appealed to the House leaders to respect the position of the party and Buhari by allowing Gbajabiamila become the leader.
However, that did not sail through until Oyegun accepted that the Deputy Speaker from Osun state, Hon Lasun retains his seat.
On June 9, 2015, Gbajabiamila, a former minority leader, lost in his bid to become the speaker as he narrowly lost to Yakubu Dogara.
The APC leadership then asked the House to adopt Gbajabiamila as the Leader which Dogara’s camp had rejected until today.
Other Principal Officers of the Green Chamber are Ado Doguwa who was named chief whip, Buba Jibrin, deputy leader and Pally Iraise the deputy whip.
Meanwhile, Leo Ogor emerged Minority Leader; Chukwuma Onyema, deputy Minority Whip; and Yakubu Umar, the Minority Whip.
