Ahead of the Kogi state
gubernatorial poll of November 21,2015, the Commandant General of the Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has ordered the deployment of 5,000
NSCDC personnel , sniffer dogs
and other security machinery from Kogi and its environs to ensure the success
of the poll.
This is in line with the
NSCDC mandate in providing security before, during and after elections by
monitoring the activities of political parties as well as political actors through
surveillance and intelligence gathering in order to guarantee a peaceful and
hitch free polls.
Gana issued this
directive at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja, assuring that a robust
security architecture have been put in place to guarantee security of lives and
property of the electorates while adequate arrangement have also been made for
Officers and Men of the Corps to discharge their constitutional mandate without
fear or favour.
The NSCDC helmsman called on all the political gladiators
to play by the rules and not to take laws into their hands by carrying out any acts
inimical to the peaceful conduct of the election. He implored politicians to imbibe the
spirit of sportsmanship.
According to him, '' every competition has a
win or lose situations but the spirit of
sportsmanship will enable the loser concede defeat without bitterness while
embracing the winner for emerging victorious''.
He reiterated that
adhering to this simple principle of true sportsmanship in a keenly contested
race will promote true democracy and responsible leadership in Kogi State.
Abdullahi Muhammadu also charged parents and guardians to caution
their wards against thuggery and all forms of electoral violence. He advised
all the people of Kogi state to be law
abiding as anyone caught fomenting
trouble would be dealt with according to the law.
The Commandant General expresses
confidence in the composition of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), charging
them to continue to live up to expectation as an unbiased umpire and praying to
God Almighty to guide the new INEC leadership in all their electioneering
duties.
On synergy, Gana , beckoned
on all Security Agencies to work together in harmony for a common goal, stating further that our
collective efforts towards a successful election in Kogi State will bring glory
not only to our dear country but the
entire security agencies involved in the process.
