Buhari Expresses Shock On Death Of Abubakar Audu
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday expressed shock over the death of Abubakar Audu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s inconclusive Kogi governorship election.Buhari, who is attending the Third Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran, made his feeling known in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
“We are obviously devastated at the loss, “the statement quoted the president as saying.
Mr. Buhari described the late Mr. Audu as a “talented politician, a family-loving man, immensely courageous and a respected community leader”.
Mr. Buhari condoled with the family of the late governor, the government and people of Kogi as well as all APC members, who stood with the deceased in his bid to return as governor.
The president noted that the deceased ran as favourite in the election as the early results had clearly indicated.
He, therefore, prayed to Allah for the repose of the soul of the deceased and to give his family, the people of Kogi as well as the APC members across the country the fortitude to bear the loss.
