THINK OF SOLUTIONS TO THE INCESSANT CHALLENGES OF PLATEAU STATE – GANDUJE CHARGES NIPSS ALUMNI


Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has advised the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, to come up with a solution to the recurring social, security, religious and tribal problems bedeviling Plateau state, the host of the Institute, once and for all.

He gave the advice when President of the Alumni assosiciton of the institute, Major General Lawrence Onoja (rtd) paid him a courtesy call at the Kano Government House on Thursday.

 Dr. Ganduje lamented that "Plateau state is having a number of security problems ranging from social, religious and tribal. I believe your Institute should sponsor a study, because Jos, is your host and as the nucleus of policy making in the country. I think you should sponsor a study to find out what is actually happening in Plateau so that you should be able to advice the federal and state government to see that the long existing security problems in the state are solved."

The governor argued out that the proposed study would serve as social responsibility of the NIPSS to the host community, adding that resolving such societal problems is the bedrock of a wholesome society.

The governor further tasked graduants of the Institute to come up with the better ideas on how things can be put in good shape for the rapid progress of the country.

Dr Ganduje urged governments at all levels to tap from the experience of the graduants at their disposal, in order to assist the government with good strategies that would solve their immediate and long term problems.

Earlier, President of the NIPSS Alumni, Major General Lawrence Onoja (rtd) told the governor that they were in the state to congratulate him on his assumption of office and to appealing to the state government to look for possible ways of consulting NIPSS Alumni in order to benefit from their experience.

Meanwhile, Dr Ganduje has said that present administration in Kano is planning to transform the state civil service in conformity with international best practices.

The governor stated this when the chairman and members of Kano Civil Service Commission paid him a courtesy call, adding that already, a plans are on to computerize the service.

He, however, noted that the exercise would take time before it is fully implemented considering the fact that most of the civil servants in the state are not computer literate, adding that with the introduction of SERVICOM into the system gradually civil service would be reformed.

Earlier, Chairman of the Commission, Engr. Bello Muhammad Kiru explained the functions of the commission, appealing to the government to computerize the filing system of the commission for effective service delivery.
