Kano
state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Wednesday, inaugurated
committees on the adoption of Scheme of
Service for Local Government Employees and that of State Prerogative of
Mercy.
Inaugurating
the committees at the Council Chamber, Kano Government House, Dr
Ganduje urged them to work within the limit of the laws guiding their
schedules.
The
governor specifically charged the committee on local government
employees to come up with initiatives that would ensure best
administrative practices. The committee is under the chairmanship of
Salisu Muhammad Gabasawa.
On
the committee on Prerogative of Mercy, which is to be headed by Sheikh
Ibrahim Ahmad Suleiman, he stated that it is mandated to, among other
things, find ways for decongesting the state prisons, through leniency
to inmates, on compassionate grounds.
Dr.
Ganduje cited that inmates to be considered for the Prerogative of
Mercy are old aged inmates, those with health challenges and those who
became reformed while in prison, emphasizing that prisoners with
robbery and murder cases would not enjoy the clemency.
Meanwhile,
Governor GandUje has presided over the swearing in of two permanent
secretaries in the State Civil Service. They are Muhammad Yusuf Danduwa
and Muhammad Adamu.
The
governor charged them to double their effort and commitment
considering the new assignment given to them, hoping that they would
work hard towards realizing a reformed civil service especially
implementation of the SERVICOM charter.
