GANDUJE ADVOCATES STRONGER NIGERIA – ETHIOPIA RELATIONS


Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has stressed the need for closer bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia in view of the huge opportunities for economic development in both countries.

The governor, who spoke while receiving the Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria, Samiya Zakaria, at the Government House in Kano, said states like Kano are good destinations for foreign direct investment.
“We are the most populous state and foremost commercial center in Nigeria. So, when it comes to business, I think there is no better destination than Kano in Nigeria”, the governor stated.

He noted that trade relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia are being reinforced by Ethiopian Airlines which operates from Kano, Abuja and Lagos, which he said provides links to not only Ethiopia but other parts of the world.

The governor expressed happiness that Nigerian businessmen are discovering Ethiopian markets assuring that his administration would encourage local businessmen to do business in the country, as part of efforts to promote African integration.

Earlier, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria, Samiya Zakaria said the visit to Kano state is to enhance trade and tourism relations with people of the state.

She stated that foremost Nigerian business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote recently established a factory in Ethiopia urging other Kano – based business men to emulate him in view of her countries potential for economic progress.

Regarding tourism, Ambassador Zakaria said her country is rich in religious and cultural tourism sites, stressing that the long – existing cordial relationship between the country and Nigeria, which dates back to pre- colonial times, would be enhance if Nigerians explore business opportunities in Ethiopia or visit the country for tourism.
