Kano
state government is on the verge of enacting a law that would enable
civil servants to enjoy a dynamic contributory Health Scheme in public
hospitals in the state, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
has announced.
Dr.
Ganduje, who dropped the hint during the launch of distribution of
medical and dental equipment and consumables as well as distribution of
additional tricycles ambulances to local government areas, at the
premises of the state Drugs and Medical Equipment and Consumables Supply
Agency on Monday, said the bill is already before the State House of
Assembly for consideration.
The
governor said currently, 95 percent of the state civil servants have
endorsed the programme, according to the state branch of Nigeria Labour
Congress, adding that this gesture would be extended to private
organizations if circumstances permit.
He
explained that the civil servants would enjoy the services which are
available in designated hospitals, hoping that through that programme,
the well being and productivity of the workers and their families would
be improved.
On
the distribution of the medical equipment and consummables, Dr Ganduje
said N100 million was expended to purchase modern dental and delivery
equipments, stressing that provision of these facilities would not only
improve hospital services but would also assist health personnel to do
their work effectively.
The
governor also stated that out of 153 tricycle ambulances secured by the
state for transporting pregnant women to hospitals, 70 were donated by
Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), adding that they also brought
10 more recently, which would be given to Municipal, Nassarawa, Gwale
and Dala local governments.
He
thanked the organization for the assistance, promising that very soon
the present administration would organize a special event to appreciate
donor agencies that have been assisting the state.
In
his remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim
Getso said so far present government has spent over N2 billion in
providing drugs and medical equipments for patients and hospitals in
Kano with a view of addressing the health challenges the state.
Meanwhile,
Governor Ganduje has inspected the on-going Sheikh Mudi Salga and
Dakata - Bela roads in Dala and Nassarawa local government areas
respectively, promising that the two road projects would be completed
before present administration clocks one year in office.
The
governor maintained that he had received assurances from the
contractors of timely completion, pointing out that with their serious
disposition so far, the targeted completion period would be met.
Speaking
during the inspection, the state Commissioner of Land and Physical
planning, Dr. Farouq B.B Farouq said that all the hiccups that
caused the delay of the projects especially Dakata – Bela road, which
was awarded 12 years ago, were resolved by the two parties involved.
