Kano
state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has departed the country
today for New Delhi, India as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s
delegation to the India – Africa Forum.
Established in 2008, the Forum aims to promote mutually beneficial relations between India and African countries.
It
would specifically enable consultations at the highest political level
between the heads of government of 54 nations across Africa and the
Indian government to develop a new paradigm of cooperation which takes
into account Africa's own aspirations for pan-African institutions and
development programmes.
During Gov. Ganduje’s trip to India, this deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar will serve as Acting Governor of the state.
The
trip is important to Kano state in particular in view of the
cooperation that exists between the state and India in the area of
education and energy, as an Indian firm is currently constructing the
multibillion Naira Kano Independent Power Project at Tiga and Challawa
dams.
