Boy Scout Aimed At Reducing Youth Restiveness- Chief Scout


SCOUTS ASSOCIATION INDUCTS GOV. GANDUJE AS PATRON

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was yesterday, honored as patron of Scout Association of Nigeria.
The investiture ceremony, which took place as Africa House, Government House, Kano is part of activities of the 3 – day 6th National Executive Meeting of the association, taking place in Kano city.

Speaking during the event the Chief Scout of Nigeria, Engr. Muhammad Ahmad Rufa’i said the honour is in recognition of the fatherly disposition of the governor and the support rendered to the state council of the Scout Association by the state government. 

He said the association, if well supported will help in reducing youth restiveness, stressing that African countries like Uganda and Kenya, that have special budgets for their scouts associations, have minimal levels of youth deviance in their societies.
 
In this regard, Engr. Rufa’i requested the state government to set aside some subvention for the association, give it a plot of land to build a state secretariat and provide it with a bus to facilitate movement of its officials.
  
In his acceptance speech, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who expressed appreciation to the association for the honour done to him said the state government is cognizant of its activities and support it to expand its membership base.

“If we have your activities inculcated in the minds of our children, problems such as drug addiction would be drastically reduced”, the governor argued, describing the association as a partner in progress.
 
Governor Ganduje promised to look into the problems of the association confiscated land as well as its lack of transport facility with a view to solving them once and for all.

Others who spoke during the ceremony including the National Scout Commissioner, Olori Omo - Oba Olusoga Sofolahan and the Kano state Scout Commissioner, Alhaji Ali Abdullahi emphasized on the need for state and Federal governments to assist the Scout Association to shape the character of the teeming youths in the society and to engage them in community service projects.

Also during the event, the state Deputy governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Alasan Rurum and the Secretary to the State government, Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi were as inducted as Deputy State Patrons of the association.
