KANO’S LARGE POPULATION A GREAT CHALLENGE TO NIS - GANDUJE

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has noted that the commercial position of Kano city coupled with the daily influx of people from several parts of West Africa is a great challenge to the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Receiving the new Comptroller of the state command of the service, CIS Sadik Baba Shehuri in his office, Governor Ganduje lamented that the multiplicity of people in the state has made it vulnerable to security challenges.

For instance, he highlighted that in recent times, most of the people arrested in the state for alleged cattle rustling were identified as people from West African countries who connive with unscrupulous local Fulani.

He was also of the view that with what the Nigerian Army’s renewed effort to tackle insurgency, Kano, in view of its high population and ethnic diversity, may attract some insurgents, urging the Nigeria Immigration Service to be up and doing in terms of its responsibilities to keep the state safe.

Governor Ganduje, who charged security agencies in the state to cultivate strong coordination of their activities, to make the state safe at all times, donated a brand new 18 – seater bus to the state command of Nigeria Immigration Service to ease its logistical problems.

In his speech earlier on, the Comptroller of the state command of the NIS, Mr. Sadik Baba Shehuri told the governor that in collaboration with other security agencies, the Immigration Service has evolved new strategies to monitor movement of people to and out of the state.

While thanking the state government for untiring support to the command, CIS Shehuri requested for office accommodation to enable smooth take - off of the second passport office in the state as well as a vehicle to assist his officers in routine surveillance.
