KANO TO COMPLETE ON-GOING PROJECTS - GANDUJE
Kano
state government would consider completing its inherited projects on
the basis of availability of funds, need by communities and time
constraint, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has
disclosed.
The governor made this known today (Wednesday) while receiving the report of the committee set up by the government on Completion of Ongoing Projects, at the Council Chambers, Government House, Kano.
The
governor, who noted the large number of projects scattered around the
state and their capital intensive nature, explained that the government
had to set up a committee to advise it on them in order to ascertain
their level of completion, payments made and other details necessary for
successful completion.
He
said although all the inherited projects are very vital, the government
is compelled by funding constraints to complete them gradually. The
governor, therefore, stated that two separate council committees would
be set up to specially study the Housing and 5 kilometer projects and
Infrastructure/Water projects sections of the report submitted before a
final position on their completion is reached.
Governor
Ganduje also promised that the government would embark upon new
projects that would improve the quality of lives of the citizenry
particularly in the areas of urban mass transit, Independent Power
Projects and solar energy, among others.
Submitting
the report, the chairman of the Committee, Arc. Ibrahim Haruna
explained that some of the projects could be completed within that next
few weeks while others should be completed in the long term in view of
the present economic challenges facing the state.
He
stated that the committee observed the necessity to strengthen the
state Project Monitoring Bureau to make it more efficient and the need
to avoid overloading contractors and consultants.
