KANO TO MAXIMIZE IGR FOR DEVELOPMENT – GOV. GANDUJE
Kano
state government has set machinery in motion to capitalize on its
revenue potentials for rapid socio – economic progress, the state
governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stated.
The
governor stated this while receiving the Corps Marshall and Chief
Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Boboye
Oyeyemi, in his office, disclosing that already, the government is
studying the report of a committee of experts set up to advise it on
revenue generation.
He
said in view of increasing demand for infrastructural development and
social services, and against the backdrop of dwindling Federal
allocation, the state government must rise up to the challenge of
sourcing funds internally.
Dr.
Ganduje also mentioned that the government is keenly interested in
maximization of accruable revenue from plate number and driving license,
assuring that the administration would fully participate in the
proposed partnership with FRSC in this regard.
Earlier,
the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi told the governor that he came
to showcase the governor how his government would generate additional
revenue through enforcement of using driving license and plate numbers.
Mr.
Oyeyemi pointed out that while 74 percent of Lagos state motorists have
driving license, only seven percent of the vehicle drivers in Kano have
it, noting that state, with highest population in Nigeria, could
generate more revenue than Lagos if it maximizes the process through
partnership with the FRSC. He also pledged readiness of the commissions
to train officials of the state road traffic agency, KAROTA, to improve
their efficiency.
Meanwhile,
the governor also received management of Simba Group of Companies. Dr
Ganduje said the state has fertile land for cultivation and is ready to
partner with the company to benefit from new techniques of farming, in
view of its huge farming population.
