Kano Gov Seeks For More Police Presence In The State
Kano
state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Danduje has appealed to the Federal
Government to deploy more police personnel to the state, considering the
fact that it is a thriving commercial center and the most populous
state in the country.
He
made the appeal when the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, in
Charge of Logistics, Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe paid him a courtesy on
Tuesday, lamenting that some states with lesser population than Kano
have more police officers serving their citizens.
Dr.
Gnduje noted that since the state is having less than the required
Policemen while it is hosting a Police College, there is the need for at
least one quarter of trainees from the college to be retained in the
state, especially in view of the security challenges facing it.
On
the problem of cattle rustling facing Kano and neighboring states, the
governor said reports reaching him indicated that the alleged culprits
are hiding in Falgore Forest, assuring that he will work closely with
the governors of Bauchi, Kaduna and other concerned states to address
the problem.
He,
however, cautioned security agencies who may be deployed to work in the
area take into consideration the fact that many Fulani herdsmen are
camped in the forest and should not be mistaken for criminals.
Governor
Ganduje praised the Police and other security agencies in the state for
their commitment towards protecting lives and property, hoping the
spirit would be maintained.
Earlier,
DIG Mamman Tsafe said the force is concerned about the criminals who
use the Falgore Forest as hideout, disclosing that the impending
National Security Summit which all governors, traditional rulers
and Security agencies will attend would serve as a forum to find lasting
solution to the problem and other security challenges facing the
region.
He
thanked the state governor for supporting the State Police Command with
working materials, hoping that the good relationship would be
maintained.
In
a connected development, Governor Ganduje has constituted a committee
to enlighten citizens of the state on the National Identification Card
project. Receiving his national identify card from the state
Coordinator, National Identity Management Commission, in his office,
said the move became necessary because people in the state are not
taking full advantage of the ID Card registration exercise, despite its
importance.
The
governor, who linked the security challenges facing the country to lack
of a standard means of individual identification among other things,
directed local government councils in the state to provide offices for
the commission in their domains so as to get people enrolled.
He
directed the state Ministry of Works to provide electricity and
furniture at the state office of the National Identity Management
Commission, to enable them serve more diligently.
