Kano
state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has charged citizens of Kano in
particular and Nigerians in general to pay their taxes duly to enable
them benefit from more public utilities by the government.
He
said payment of taxes is a civic duty which every eligible Nigeria must
observe to enable the government provide services and facilitate
development. The governor stated this while receiving the Area
Commander, Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Command, Mr. E.O. Joe,
who visited him at the Government House, Kano.
The
governor, who pledged to work closely with the organization to generate
more revenue for the government also tasked the command to assist the
state government in detecting and prosecuting drug barons.
He
said the government is worried by the increasing rate of drug abuse in
the state which is as a result of importation of illicit drugs by
unpatriotic Nigerians, pointing out that stropping activities of such
drug barons is more important than collecting taxes from them.
In
his remarks, the Area Commander, Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa
Command, Mr. Mathias Abutu Onoja said he was on a visit to assess
commercial activities, map out more strategies to improve revenue
generation and discourage importation of bad drugs.
Meanwhile,
Governor Ganduje has promised to join hands with the Police Academy,
Wudil, to improve security in the state. The governor made the pledge
when he received the Commandant of the Academy, AIG Baba Adisa Bolanta,
who paid him a courtesy visit.
The
governor urged management of the academy to give special consideration
to Kano, being its host community and assured that the state government
would help in alleviating some of its logistics problems.
