Ace producer, Kunle Afolayan held
the Lagos grand premiere of his new movie “The CEO,” on Sunday, July
10, 2016 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos and at the
star-studded event, he pleaded with pirates not to bootleg his artistic
creation.
According
to the filmmaker and actor, he borrowed 50 million naira from
Nigeria’s Bank of Industry to produce the movie and has not yet repaid
the loan he took.
He said, “I borrowed N50million from Bank of Industry to produce this film. Please do not pirate the film. I beg you o. I need to pay back the money. I think I have 13 months left. Please help o”
Afolayan had his first major publicised run-in with pirates in 2015 when some of them threatened to release his hit movie “October 1” once they got a hold of his master copy. Angered by their audacity, Kunle,
went on a controversial rant on social media accusing Ibo people of
being responsible for piracy in Nigeria. When it became obvious that the
pirates had made good on their threats, the AMVCA award-winning
thespian went on to beg his fans not to patronize the sellers so as to
help him reap the fruits of his labour.
The movie, The CEO was first premiered 30,000 feet in the air aboard a Lagos to Paris flight on June 1, 2016. It features Hilda Dokubo, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Angelique Kidjo, Wole Ojo among others and will begin showing in cinemas from July 15, 2016.

According to the singer and dancer, she realized she had to set aside her smoking habit after experiencing chest pains. The thought of not being alive to witness daughter, Rolari, graduate from the university made her abandon her smoking ways and “Before my daughter went into the university, I used to smoke and suffer chest pains. I was like ‘if I continue smoking I may die before my daughter graduates’. “That was the inspiration I needed to stop smoking because for years, I had been telling myself that I would stop smoking on the first day of January, but by January 4 I was still smoking.
“But
this time, I didn’t wait for January 3 or 4. I simply told myself that
if I continued smoking, I would die and never see my daughter graduate.
And that was just too important for me, so I just stopped. I have
stopped smoking for three years. The fear of not being able to educate
my child gave me that inspiration. I was like, who will educate this
girl if I die?”
She could not stop gushing
about her lovely daughter whom she is immensely proud of. She noted
however that it is no longer easy to interact with her now unlike before
because she is now a married woman living in her husband’s house.
She said, “I miss my daughter but we talk regularly. I can’t call her in her husband’s house the way I used to call her before”“I am a very happy mother because my daughter is married and settled, and they both love each other”. According
to her children, late veteran actress, Zainab Bukky Ajayi who passed
away on Wednesday, July 6 battled breast cancer, hypertension and
diabetes before she finally gave up the ghost.
Described as a strong and
dedicated woman, the late icon’s sons, in a recent chat with Vanguard
newspapers showed encomiums on their late mother exhorting her immense
impact in their lives.
Claudius
Akinwade Peter-Thomas, a musician and second son of the late icon
noted, “There aren’t enough words to quantify Mama. She was an
independent woman who shouldered the responsibility of raising three
lions (sons) without raising her brows. I see her as a lioness. She was
also able to combine and manage her situation (single motherhood) and
her career. She was a good planner. To that effect, my elder brother is
nine years older than me, and I am 11 years older than my younger
brother. A good planner she was.
Despite
being in the public glare, she ensured her private life remained
private. Many of my friends didn’t know I was the daughter of the
popular actress. This is not because she wasn’t proud of her children,
but because she was able to draw the line between her career and her
family. People relate with me as Raz CPT and not the daughter of a
celebrity, so to say. Mummy has been struggling with her health, she had
cancer of the breast, diabetic and was also hypertensive.”
Kunle Fawole, popularly known as Abounce
and the last child of the family spoke about her last moments said, “I
and mama were in the living room with some of my friends when I noticed
that her heart wasn’t moving, I mean like she stopped breathing.
Immediately, I checked her pulse and called my elder brothers. We felt
her pulse and heartbeat, did everything possible. But alas, she has
passed on. And that was at about 11:23 am on Wednesday. She was a bit
ill before this happened. She had been ill for a number of years now.
She had stroke some couple of years back.
There was a time she also had cerebral
malaria. She became diabetic, hypertensive and also suffered breast
cancer before now”, he explained mournfully.
Mr Alfred Oluwole Shoga was Bukky
Ajayi’s first son, a 60-year old man said they were shocked but thankful
they are alive to bury her and not her witnessing their deaths.
“At 60, my mother still gives me money
each time I visit her and I will say, `Mum I’m suppose to give you
money’ and she will say I should use it for transportation” he said,
fondly remembering his great mother.
