The zonal phase of the Seminar on Media Engagement in CrisisSituation being organized by the Centre for Crisis Communication(CCC) for the public relations and information officers of military, security and response agencies in Nigeria, has shifted to the South-South as Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital is set to host the event.
The capacity building
seminar with the theme, “Enhancing then Capacity of the Public
Relations and Information Officers in Addressing Crisis
Situations”, commenced in Abuja in April and was replicated in Bauchi
in June for participants domiciled in thenorth east region.
The Port Harcourt
version is billed to take placeon 20-21 July, 2016 and will be declared
open by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahaman
Dambazau (Rtd).
Following the success
recorded in the earlier seminar, the organizers, Centre for
Crisis Communication with the support ofNigeria Stability and
Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) decided to replicate the programme in
the North East and the South-South region of the country where crisis
information management is more challenging.
The essence of moving
the seminar around is to enable information officers of these agencies
who are operating in the zones to benefit from the rich knowledge which
the seminar promises.
The programme is aimed at strengthening the capacity of
target participants – public relations and information officers of
military, security and response agencies – to relate with the media more
professionally, adopting the best practices in the management
ofinformation, especially during crisis.
It is also hoped
that the platform will enhance better synergy and coordination amongst
security and media organisation in the dissemination of crisis
information.
