The Controller General, Federal Fire Service (FFS), Anebi Joseph Garba has called for the unification of the Fire services in Nigeria for uniformity and efficiency in addressing fire incidents in Nigeria.
Garba
stated this when he led participants at the on-going National Council
on Fire meeting holding in Minna, Niger State to the palace of Etsu
Nupe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Yahaya CFR.
He
told the Emir further that the country’s Fire Service is being
administered separately which does not enhance synergy, efficient and
effective service delivery to the citizenry. Anebi stated that other
sister organizations are unified and administered uniformly and called
for the unification of the entire Fire Services in the country.
At
the palace, the CG told the Emir that the Nigerian Fire Service and
stakeholders were in Minna for the 7th National Council on Fire annual
meeting and had come to pay homage to the custodian of the people’s
culture and tradition.
Responding,
the Emir elated by the visit stated that the Fire Service is very
significant to be neglected considering as its mandate is to save lives
and property and in the process some of these firefighters loss their
lives in the course of carrying out their assigned duties amidst plenty
of risks and hazard. The Emir said although, the organization had
several challenges to contain which include: inadequate equipment,
facilities, trained manpower, poor welfare, e.t.c. Yet firefighters in
the country despite these short comings are eager and willing at all
times to forge ahead.
The
Etsu Nupe, pledged his support for the unification of the Fire Services
in the country to enhance service delivery in all departments of the
organization. He requested the council to make available to his palace a
copy of the summary of the resolutions at the end of the conference.
