Detention: Court Dismisses Obla’s Claim Against EFCC


Justice Muhammad Idris of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi Lagos, today November 25,2016 dismissed the application of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Godwin Obla challenging his arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Justice Idris dismissed the prayers of the applicant on the grounds that the application was unmeritorious. He said the prosecution was in order having obtained a remand order and the order was not an infringement of  right of the applicant.
Obla, had through his counsel, Ifedayo Adedipe, SAN filed a motion seeking for a declaration that his arrest and detention on the 8th of November, 2016 was in breach of his constitutional right and freedom of movement. He urged the court to order the EFCC to release him forthwith and unconditionally.
Adedipe also prayed the court to compel the prosecution to pay the sum of N1billion to his client being damage for his unlawful arrest and detention.
 Obla SAN is under investigation by the EFCC for allegedly making suspicious payments to judicial officers.
