A
19-year-old girl who was impersonating Star Boy Records boss and
international music sensation, Wizkid, on social media has landed in
Police net in Lagos after defrauding unsuspecting people of over
$65,000, about 12.9million in Naira.
The
suspect, identified as Ifeoma Nelly is said to be a studying Industrial
Chemistry at the Delta State University. She was arrested through the
combined efforts of Wizkid’s Manager, Mr. Sunday Are, policemen from
Lagos and an Australian when she came to Lagos to collect part payment
of $25,000 from some Australians at a hotel in Lagos who wanted to book
the services of Wizkid for him to perform for them live in Australia.
Nelly
had been receiving payment via electronic means but due to desperation,
decided to appear in person to collect the $25,000 from the Australian.
She came with two friends, a lady and a guy. Unknown to her, policemen
had been planted in the hotel and were waiting to take her into custody.
When she walked into the hotel with her friends, she was immediately
nabbed and carted away.
Explaining how it all wend down, Mr Are
said the lady alleged that she had been posing as Wizkid on Facebook and
had gotten away with defrauding people for three years. When asked if
she had other members assisting her, Nelly insisted that she was the
only one running the show.
Are said, “She has collected money from
different people. If you don’t have evidence against her, she would deny
it. But if you show her evidence, she would tell you the truth. There
was the case of the $53,000, which we had to refund to the owner.
“She confirmed that she was the one who
collected it. There was another payment of $12,500 from Germany. The
Germany people sent details of how they paid the money to her. She
couldn’t deny it.”
Are noted that due to the scrupulous work
of the suspect, Wizkid’s camp had to refund money to clients when the
situation was becoming embarrassing.
The manager said: “We had been having
problems with different clients because of this. We keep refunding all
the money. It was an issue. When it became serious, we had to refund the
money to victims. Some people will just go, write in papers that Wikzid
disappointed them. They would say Wizkid and his manager collected
money and didn’t come to perform.

One can tell that Toke Makinwa wants to get back in the dating game again, but this has been a problem as she keeps meeting interesting men only for them to reveal that they are married midway through interesting conversations. In her latest vlog post, the OAP revealed how she met men last Saturday, started a deep conversation with one of them, only to later learn that he was married. “Why would I waste two hours chatting with a married man? Why would I waste my cute outfit, sitting here, sitting with a married man?” Makinwa asked, clearly disappointed. “Why are you guys not bold enough? Why don’t you guys dominate?” She said, and explained she expected that at the end of the event, she would have met a few, exchanged number and meet during the week. “But nothing!” She also made it clear to all her fans that she needs a single, bold man who will sweep her off her feet. Toke Makinwa’s previous marriage to Maje Ayida ended last year after the fitness expert impregnated his mistress. |

Award-winning director Kunle Afolayan has gotten international recognition with the release of his new movie, The C.E.O. Afolayan, who is also the brains behind October 1 and number of Nollywood blockbusters, was featured in American Magazine Variety where he talked about his latest movie The C.E.O and also the challenges facing Nollywood as an industry. Described as one of the ‘helmers lensing pics with broader appeal’ by the magazine, Kunle revealed that despite the problem of piracy in Nollywood, he remains dedicated to his maturing craft and will continue to work hard to bring the best to the Nigerian movie industry. “I am surviving,” he said. “For me, it’s about the film,” he added. “It’s about making films for my kind of audience — from Africa, from anywhere.” He also talked about working on movies in other countries that are not inspired by Nigerian stories. The C.E.O, which is Kunle’s fifth feature film, tells the story of a company whose CEO nominates five employees for a leadership retreat where they undergo series of twisted games for the next Ceo to be chosen. Shot in different locations around the world, The C.E.O features Haitian thespian Jimmy Jean-Louis, Moroccan pop star Ahmed Soultan, and Grammy Award-winning singer Angélique Kidjo. Afolayan stated that he is sure the movie would help to distract Nigerians from worrying about the current economic issues in the country. Yesterday, The C.E.O premièred at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in an unconventional style with guests getting a first glimpse of the movie aboard a flight from Lagos to Paris. The critically acclaimed movie will be premièred on the opening night of the Nollywood Week film festival. |

Popular comic actress, Eniola Badmus,
recently had an interview with Encomium where she talked on her career,
the lack of support while she was a struggling actress, why she avoids
spilling on her romantic life and more. Read excerpts below:
On her love life
Those are the things I don’t like talking about. Let us just talk
about my career. I don’t believe in talking about personal issues to the
press and social media. They won’t make such relationship last.On celebrities and social media Nigerians in the disapora do not really have loyal fans. My fans are other celebrities’ fans. We don’t have fans that wouldn’t move out from you. So, I don’t reply them. I am a comic person. I don’t reply them. Nothing gets to me. There are some comments that get to me but I don’t reply. I am not about that. They are the same set of people that will praise me tomorrow. It is better to ignore such comments.
Tips for success to the up and coming actors in the industry
They should ask themselves if they are
ready. When I started out, I wasn’t fully prepared. What I got after my
career kicked off was far from my dreams. They should be prepared and be
ready to bear the consequences of their decisions. Like people abusing
them on social media, going to locations and not getting paid.
They need to be determined and focused. If not, frustration will set
in and they will quit. The job can be frustrating when starting up. You
have to go to locations, you may not be paid. You may go on set and they
may not do your beat for days. I went to set and I wasn’t paid. I can’t
even count the number of times I went through that. That is the
industry. When you are a new comer, it can be frustrating but I was strong. I never thought of quitting, though my parents didn’t like my decision to become an actress. They almost had a fight with me become I didn’t come home. They would look for me. It was later they left me after fighting me severally. |
