WHAT IS YOUR WORLDVIEW?
“Now,
O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching
you to perform, so that you may live and go in and take possession of
the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you. You
shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from
it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I
command you.” - Deuteronomy 4:1-2
What we believe determines how we live. Belief determines our actions. Our 4th
statement of belief is, “The Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God
to reveal God and His will to man. The Bible has God as its author,
salvation for its sin, and truth without any mixture of error. The
Bible is the sole authority for Christian living.”
Today, we’re going to see
what the Word says about the Word and what the Word says about the
Bible. Why? Because there can be no more important essential of the
faith than what we believe about Scripture.
We are living in a time
when a lot of people have a worldview of scientific rationalism. It’s
the basis of what they believe and how they approach life. A worldview
shapes our thinking about God, man, life, and values. Believe it or not,
every person on the face of the earth has a worldview. Every single
one.
What is your worldview?- Is it scientific rationalism, because you don’t think the church is relevant to today’s world?
- Is it a naturalistic worldview? You do not believe in the supernatural and don’t base any of your decisions that way.
- Is it the view a cultural conservative? You honor conservative tradition.
- There is the worldview of a secular humanist in how you go about looking at life and that really shapes every decision you make.
- Maybe you’re into sentimentalism – or “feel-good-ism.” In other words, you make your decisions, you think about life by what feels good to you at that moment.
God’s ultimate revelation of Himself—Jesus—is directly dependent on the written Word of God. Scripture is God’s special revelation to man that gives us the perfect picture of Jesus. Without God’s written Word, we would not know who Jesus is, what He came to do, or what we are to believe about Jesus Christ.
On top of that, when we
come to trust Christ as our Lord and Savior, He gives us a gift – the
Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us an inner desire to obey the Word
of God and the extra strength we need to resist the temptation to sin.
Yes, we are going to be battling sin all of our life here on this earth,
but the Holy Spirit within the believer gives us the strength to have
victory over sin.
The Word (Jesus) tells us in His Word (the Scriptures) everything we need to know
about who He is, how to live, and most of all, about His Son who said,
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me.” (John 14:6)
What is your worldview? I
hope you will choose a Biblical worldview that reveals to you the
perfect understanding of God in Jesus Christ. When you choose to follow
Him, the Bible will reveal what He wants you to know about victorious
living in this world – and the world to come.
