One of the baffling allocations polluting the 2016 Budget submitted to the National Assembly is the N3.87 billion voted for capital projects at the State House Medical Centre. The clinic provides healthcare for President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, their families and other employees of the Presidency. Surprisingly, this allocation is bigger than the combined allocation for capital projects in all the 16 teaching hospitals owned by the federal government. Our dear Lagos University Teaching Hospital got a miserable N212 million for capital project in the budget. I hope our federal lawmakers will note this eccentricity and reallocate the N3.87 billion to the 16 teaching hospitals. All these hospitals are in dire need of equipment like radiotherapy and dialysis machines. We all know that Teaching hospitals cater for the needs of millions of Nigerians and deserve more that the chickenfeed allocated to them in the 2016 budget. Ordinary Nigerians do not have access to the amusing State House Clinic.
