How We Preserved Peace In Nigeria For 16 Years – PDP Ministers
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it was able to preserve peace in Nigeria throughout its 16-year rule.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the PDP ministers forum meeting, the chairman of the forum, Kabiru Turaki said that this has remained so because the party strongly believes that power belongs to the people.
“The success of PDP at all level is because we believe that power belongs to the people and power must be taken back to the people,” Turaki said.
He noted that even while people including the west had predicted that Nigeria was expected disintegrate in 2015 but we kept peace and all Nigerians together.
“I have promised my people that since we have been able to save Nigeria and we will save our great party,” Turaki, also a former minister of special duties said. Highlighting various PDP achievements in the 16 years of its rule, Turaki said the party was able to reach an unprecedented legacy during its ruling.
“We were able to sustain an exchange regime that was very stable, we moved agriculture from a means to sustain a living to become a business, that is part of our legacy,” he said. “And so we say, we are not fighting for space with anybody, we already have our legacies,” the former minister continued.
Turaki however said the forum feel concerned about the outcome of events in the party especially the appointment of Ali Modu-Sheriff as the PDP national chairman.
Responding to reports that the forum is an illegal one, Turaki said it is important that all those insinuating such go back to read the party’s constitution which supports the ministers forum. “We would take a decision and we would take the outcome of the meeting to other organs of the party,” he said.
