GANDUJE INAUGURATES COMMISSION OF INQUIRY ON SINGER MARKET FIRE

Kano state government has inaugurated a 12 - man Commission of inquiry to resolve the recent Singer Market Fire Incidence and similar fire outbreaks in Kano city.

Inaugurating the commission at the Government House on Monday, the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said it is mandated to determine the immediate and remote cause of the fire as well as ways to avert recurrence of fire outbreaks in markets across the state.

He added that it is also saddled with the responsibility of assessing the extent of damage done to infrastructure and property as well as the affected victims.

The governor lamented that in the past, the state had witnessed several fire disasters in which property and lives were lost, in markets and boarding schools, noting that as such times, people were bothered about the loss rather than the reasons for the frequent outbreak.

He therefore charged the commission to do a thorough job and to submit its report within six weeks. He also appealed to the people to volunteer information that would lead to unraveling the causes of the fire outbreaks.

Responding, the chairman of the commission, Justice Wada Rano (rtd) said although the assignment is very challenging, members would put in their best to justify the mandate.
