Award winning Gospel singer, Tope Alabi, has not always had it rosy
even though she is blessed with one of the most powerful voices in the
gospel music industry.
The singer has shared her grass to grace story and it is one that will surely inspire you.
In a recent chat with Punch’s Saturday Beats, Tope revealed:
“I have been through thick and thin in this industry and I thank
God for everything. Things have not always been rosy for me especially
when it comes to gospel music. The major hindrance gospel music faces is
that people do not want to help gospel musicians and this is very
discouraging. If you go to meet anyone to help you to finance your
project, no one would be willing to help out. Also, it is not easy
receiving songs from God, putting them together coupled with the fact
that you don’t have enough money to go to the studio.
“I have been in situations whereby I would beg churches before I
could perform for free. If God was not with me, I know what would have
happened to my career. Even this programme that I am showcasing, it is
only my husband and I that are funding the concert. Things are easier
for secular musicians as they can easily find sponsors for their events
but no one wants to put money down for a gospel show. I don’t know why
they don’t want to promote the gospel of God. There were days I would go
for three days’ church programme and sing my heart out and after the
event, the organisers would just tell me to go home that they would send
money to my bank account but I would never receive any alert. That is
how I started; I was just managing in life until God decided to bless
me. I bless God for bringing me to this level and I want to say a big
thank you to Him and that is the essence of the concert I am staging.”
Speaking on her concert, “Praise the Almighty,” the singer told Saturday Beats that the annual event is aimed at thanking God for all he has done.
Speaking on one of the guest artistes, Evang. Ebenezer Obey.
“There was no problem in inviting Ebenezer Obey to be a part of
the programme because he is my father but that does not mean that I
will not appreciate him. He is a man of God whose door is always open
when it comes to Tope Alabi. I would say that it takes the grace of God
to know such people. It is a privilege,”

On Friday night, on set of a movie, Princess Chineke claims another actress on set bit her and removed the skin on her thighs during an argument. Read her story below: Princess’ story. Few nights she stayed in,she was always making mid night calls. So I asked her to go out of the room or make the calls in the toilet with the doors locked. The other night she made calls at 1am putting the caller on speaker. A few days ago, photos of Coza Pastor, Pastor Fatoyinbo flooded the internet where he was seen celebrating with his family and friends in an all white themed Yacht party in Dubai. Click HERE for the photos. Columnist Etcetera has however aired his opinions about the lavish ceremony in an interesting article. Enjoy!
”I am writing you today because I am a Christian myself. I am not
writing this article to attack you; on the contrary, I am writing it to
wake you up from sleeping in these dark hours. Jesus asked His disciples
to pray, but they went to sleep instead. Believers have gone to sleep
spiritually worldwide, especially in Nigeria. I want you to be awake to
righteousness – (1st Corinthians 15:34 says, “Awake to righteousness,
and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to
your shame”). I want to help you in the spirit of meekness – Galatians
6:1.
I saw a lot of tweets and
Facebook posts by Nigerians expressing their disgust about the all white
yacht party you did in Dubai. What is most worrisome is that the (touch
not my anointed) believers won’t tell you that you are glamorizing the
ministry by putting your lavish lifestyles on display and deceiving lazy
Christians that the party in Dubai is what God wants, what God can do,
and what God has provided.
You may ask why Nigerians are so angry. – Everybody wants nice
things, right? And what better way to get them if God does it for you?
Pastor Fatoyinbo, it is true that there is nothing wrong with having
nice things. Everyone loves to have more and live a richer life but is
that the only reason why we (should) go to church? We should also go to
church because we love God, desire to worship God, draw closer to God
and are in fellowship with other believers.
Your followers have defended
you as expected – that most people who are frustrated by your
unnecessary display of wealth are those who are struggling to get by day
to day, trying to make ends meet, save enough to meet their needs and
that of their families. Therefore, they are the ones finding it hard to
digest your lavish lifestyle. How do we digest your lavish lifestyle
ehn, knowing that you and many so called men of God are able to live
this way because of people who give monetarily to support your ministry?
You think anybody likes to feel like they are being hustled or pimped
by their pastor for profit? People love God enough to give and trust
that their money will be used to touch lives and souls with the Word of
God and not to be used for throwing lavish birthday parties in Dubai.
Pastor Fatoyinbo: If you are
going to build your own “kingdom,” do not build it on the backs of
hardworking people who really just want a more intimate relationship
with God and believe that you can point them in that direction. Don’t
“floss” on the people; it is wickedness. It’s as if you’re saying, “Look
at what I bought myself with your money. Don’t you like it? If you want
it too, pray about it!”
American rapper Kanye West said in one of his songs, “I’ve been
talking to God for so long, if you look at my life I guess he’s talking
back.” But today, he is telling us he is Jesus “Yeezus”. He has deified
himself. Pastor Fatoyinbo, your party in Dubai also suggests that you
are deifying yourself, and on your own Yeezus tour, getting high on your
own supply. Jesus said, “If I be lifted up.” (John 12:32)
Unfortunately, you “with your lavish lifestyle” are lifting up yourself
and making golden calf idols of your possessions. Pastor Fatoyinbo,
unless you willfully left heaven to take on human form, lived out a
nomadic ministry on the margins, was crucified for your ministry, died,
was buried, then rose again — sorry to say, it’s not about you.
Your followers are defending your frivolities arguing that pastors
are people too, human and flawed. Of course, they are. But as a pastor
“you don’t show people your wounds, show them your scars.”You do so as
evidence that the journey with God brings about healing and
transformation. People need and want to be whole. The question Jesus
asked was “do you want to get well?” (John 5:6 NIV)
Christians often ask why Davido and Wizkid and entertainers should
be the only ones with Bentleys and mansions. First, Bentleys and
mansions don’t measure the quality of one’s life. Secondly, entertainers
are people selling what people choose to purchase — music, movies, etc.
As ministers of the gospel you are not selling God and faith. The
Gospel is free. The Bible is not the best-selling book in history
because it has a good price point. It’s because people want to know God
and know God loves them. Yes, there is a business side of ministry but
literally for God’s sake, keep it to yourself. You don’t have to throw
lavish parties as evidence of how much money you make. It only
perpetuates the negative stereotypes true believers are constantly
trying to disprove. Your expensive all white birthday party has only
made people who are leery about church say “shebi I told you so.”
The mentality of most Nigerian believers that being rich and
thinking money sets you free, gives you peace of mind and eliminates
injustice, is a lie of the devil. Assimilation is not liberation. You
can have all the things you want and still not be whole. The true test
of how you live your life and success is what will be written in your
obituary. What will people say about you, and what you did with your
life? I’ve yet to see an obituary list all the expensive items someone
owned. So, Pastor Fatoyinbo, go on your knees and cry to God for
forgiveness.”

Nigerian
singer, Uwale Okoro aka Essence has shared her thoughts on the highly
anticipated Valentine’s day, a special day for lovers all over the
world.
When asked how she’ll be spending the day in a recent interview, she said:“I will be in church that day loving my God. I’m not a loving-for-one-day kind of person. Anybody that only loves me for one day doesn’t truly love me. I don’t believe in this idea of wearing red on one day and eating lots of cake and chocolate in the name of celebrating love. I’m a grown woman; only children wait for a particular day to celebrate love.” |

It’s Valentine’s day and some celebrities have shared their plans for the special day. See what how favourite celebrities like Ayo Adesanya, Odunlade Adekola, Helen Paul and Bash Comedian will be spending their day.
Odunlade Adekola, Nollywood actor
I will definitely take my family out on that day because it’s a day
to share love with them and friends. I will dedicate that day to
spending quality time with them.
I have arranged a special gift for my wife for this special
occasion of love. I have also put in place other things that will make
my family happy. It’s going to be a great day for us.
Ayo Adesanya, Nollywood actress
It’s a day set aside to show love to people and for me. I will join
my church on a visit to an orphanage to extend love to the people
there. It’s going to be a good and memorable time with them and the fact
that it falls on a Sunday makes it truly interesting.
My son is around and so we would go out and in the evening of that
day, I would be going for a dinner with a special one. Everybody
deserves love this season and for me, I wish all my fans so much love
and peace.
Helen Paul, comedienne
I will be at work on Valentine’s Day in Warri, Delta State. In my
home, every day is Valentine; so for me this year, it would be time for
work.
I am tired of flowers and I have told my husband to stop buying
them for me even though I appreciate them. What I need now is for him
and all others who appreciate me to stuff my bank account with money.
For me, that is the best way to show me love.
Bash, comedian
Valentine is a season of love as we all know. I have been married
for a while now and so every day is like Valentine for me. There is no
period that we have not been paying bills in my house and for me, that
is a huge sacrifice of love.
Mostly during this season, I hang out with my family and friends.
For me, every day should be Valentine and not just on February 14.
I am one of the few people that believe that people must show love
to one another even beyond this season. Love is the greatest and so we
must endeavour to spread the feeling regardless of the time or season.
