GENERAL MALU ASSURES NSCDC OF SYNERGY AND COLLABORATION




The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has said that the Nigerian Army role in assisting the Corps is unquantifiable, emphasizing that whenever the Corps came calling on the Army,  they have never failed to show concern .

Welcoming the Commandant of Army Headquarters Garrison Asokoro, Abuja, Major General John Terna Malu and his entourage at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja, the Corps helmsman appreciated the visit , pointing out , that the relationship between the NSCDC and the Armed Forces particularly the Nigerian Army is dated back to when the Corps was a Voluntary Organization .

General Malu in his remarks , said , he assumed office on November, 2015, and he is carrying out familiarization visits to Security Agencies of which the Civil Defence has their core interest at heart . He noted that , they really desire to work very closely with the Corps , thereby requesting that from time to time himself and his principal Officers will like to have very robust working relationship with the NSCDC.

The Garrison Commandant solicited for Joint Operations of his Officers with Officers and Men of the Corps whenever the need arises for such assignment. He pointed out , that it is paramount that Agencies share information which will enhance their work and help to quell any form of security challenges. The General maintained, that Security Agencies should not see themselves to compete with one another, rather synergy and cooperation  is important and exchange of timely information will make their work very easy , noting , that team work amongst Security Agencies is a must and remains the best way to do work well.

Responding , the CG highlighted that the NSCDC is the core Agency that see to the safety of Critical Infrastructure in the country, which involves not only petroleum pipelines , but covers both the railway, communication masts and cables, PHCN facilities and a host of other National Assets .

On the regulation of the Private Guard Companies , Gana revealed that the NSCDC has done a very great job in sanitizing the PGC. He explained that the Private Guard Companies were given a place of note to complement the Security Agencies in the country, reiterating that , going by the United Nations charter which states 1 policeman to 400 persons, but going by the current population of Nigeria, made it imperative to incorporate the Private Guard Companies and retrain them to impact positively  contributing to a safe Nigeria . According to Abdullahi, '' I  am delighted to declare that concerning the Private Guard Companies the NSCDC has succeeded in making that sector quack free''.

On Disaster Management , Gana said , the Corps is really gaining good grounds , informing General Malu , that currently  the Corps has trained 5000 personnel to be deployed to the North East to cover the IDPs and also , to complement the Armed Forces .

The Chief Accounting Officer implored the Nigerian Army to assist in the training of the Civil Defence personnel to give his Officers and Men quality manpower development so that before his exit as the CG , he would have put in place a very grand workforce positioned to pilot the affairs of the Agency in future. He therefore, requested for slots for the Corps personnel for all such human capacity building.
General Malu who again responded, assured the Commandant General of the Army's readiness to assist the Corps in any capacity , he then requested that the CG put up a letter officially to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), who Malu said , will be more than willing to assist in the development of the Corps personnel .

In the same vein, a German Security Consultancy Firm MOSECOM GMBH Africa, paid a courtesy visit to the Corps National Headquarters, Abuja, and was well received by the Commandant General.
The Head of the firm in Nigeria, Uzoma Ikechukwu Kingsley said he came with his chief Executive Officer Dr. Giselher Dombach, to see how they can partner with the NSCDC in the provision of technological equipment to enhance effective discharge of the Corps mandate .
The Commandant General thanked them for their visit, intimating them that the Corps is a Federal Government Grassroots Security Agency charged with the responsibility to protect the Critical Infrastructure in Nigeria . He said technological equipment that will aid the Corps in carrying out their statutory mandate will be highly appreciated .    

In another Courtesy call, by a German Security Firm, Body Guard Academy Enterprises B.A.E, led by their chief Executive Officer, M. Thorsten Moeller, the spokesperson of the Academy Nigeria, Engineer Anthony, said they came to the NSCDC to introduce to the Agency their Noiseless Security Technology which can really aid the Corps  surveillance activities , especially in difficult terrains.
The Commandant General who received the team in his office , enunciated that , in our world of today technology plays important role in making our work easy . Therefore , the Corps is ready at all times to partner with Body Guard Academy .
