FIGHT AGAINST VANDALISM NOW HAS A NEW FACE ----------------------- GANA


The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, has said that the fight against vandals and vandalism now has a new face.  He disclosed that a Special Task Force ably led by ACG's assisted by Commandants and some Officers and Men of the Corps are already working assiduously to combat the vandals and their dastard acts which is yielding positive results daily.

Gana made this disclosure during an interview session in his office at the Corps National Headquarters, Abuja.  The CG asserted that the Protection of Critical Infrastructure is the core mandate of the NSCDC which involves Protection of Oil Pipelines, Communication Equipment and Cables, Railway Lines, Electricity facilities, Water Pipelines and other National Assets.  He noted, specially that in Rivers State alone 20 persons have been convicted for various offences, while 80 arrests was made between January and November, 2015.

Abdullahi thanked the Federal Government for granting the request of the NSCDC by providing equipment that are very useful to meet with the challenges of combating vandals and bringing their nasty acts to a halt.

The Leader of the Civil Defence declared positively that in this new year 2016, The Corps will have huge success in their on slaught against vandals and their inimical acts, that the NSCDC campaign on anti-vandalism will be monumental.
On the Niger-Delta situation, the Corps helmsman pointed out that the Agency presently does not have enough manpower to cover all the pipelines, but that as soon as call was made from the distressed area the intelligence team of the NSCDC rushed to the scene and work is in progress.

Again, on the issue of Filling Stations selling above the regulated pump price of N86.50K approved by government, and the NSCDC rising to the occasion to correct the wrong act, the Commandant General explained that, first, the Civil populace need enlightenment to know why  the Officers and Men of the Corps are everywhere ensuring that the right thing must be done. He affirmed that part of the mandate of the NSCDC is to protect life and property, and it is the duty of the Corps to work in such manner to ensure that society should be at peace. Expressing delight that the NNPC has now come to terms that the NSCDC is their partner in progress, and that the corporation has now seen the need to work hand in hand with the Corps. I am very happy about this development .

Putting to rest the recruitment issue, Abdullahi Gana highlighted that when he assumed office as the Commandant General, he inherited Regular Officers and Men and Volunteers personnel, he then sought to know the numerical strength of both, so that even the Volunteers can be trained to enable them from time to time  assist the Regular Officers and Men in carrying out assignments that will be of benefit to the society in general. There was no recruitment or replacement that took place.
The CG explained further, According to him, ''if we are recruiting , due process will be followed and we will advertise in both the electronic and print media so that my brothers and sisters who are in need of job can apply for employment into the NSCDC ''.

On the role of the Corps in successfully participating in elections and performing creditably in these National Assignments , the Chief Executive Officer said, that there are 3 stages that defines the huge success of the NSCDC, which are, Before the elections  the Corps does proper planning on how to carry out our assignment, During the election proper we work to actualize peace in our domain of operations, and After the elections proper security is maintained to make sure that all went well.
