The Rivers State chapter of
the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has commended Gov Nyesom wike for the warm
reception and successful hosting of President Muhammadu Buhari represented by
his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo during his visit to the State for the flag-off of
the UNEP Report on Ogoni Clean-up.
The State PDP chairman, Bro
Felix Obuah said the successful flag-off of the UNEP Report graced by the
physical presence of Gov Wike himself has exposed the lies of political
detractors that there is insecurity in the State just to disparage the efforts
of the State government.
But more importantly, the chairman
noted, the State chief executive has by his conduct and peaceful disposition
not minding the malicious insinuations of the All Progressives Congress, APC in
the State before and during the Presidential visit proved his superior
intelligence and political maturity over and above the so called opposition in
the State.
The federal government as
well as the Ogoni people according to Bro Obuah, now know better from all the
negative media reports ahead of the visit, who have been playing politics with
the people’s misfortune between those desperate for political offices and the
Gov Wike administration.
Bro Obuah wondered why
certain overzealous politicians who claim they are more qualified than others to
lead the people find it difficult to support and acknowledge the commendable efforts
of others simply because they are not the ones to take the glory not minding
the dire consequences of their actions on the people.
He took particular exception
to the statement of the APC on the eve of the President’s visit that there were
plans to protest and disrupt the flag-off of the UNEP Report in the State,
describing it as stupidity of the highest order.
If not for the grace of God
and maybe, the insistence of the Presidential entourage to see things for
themselves, that irresponsible statement was enough to make the president put
off the flag-off.
But thank God, they came
despite the politics of calumny and they have witnessed the peaceful
disposition of our action governor and his earnest prayer to have the clean-up
of Ogoni land and elsewhere in the Niger Delta kick off. This is political
maturity, Bro Obuah stressed.
