Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has launched the state Development Plan II, covering the period 2016 – 2025.
During
the launch of the plan at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano,
the governor explained that his administration decided to revise the
Kano State Roadmap for Development 2008-2011 against the backdrop of
modern-day needs of the state and to upgrade the plan for effective goal
attainment.
The
vision of this document is “to transform the state to a knowledge base,
agriculturally industrialized and commerce friendly society with
sustainable growth and appreciable living standards for all citizens”,
governor Ganduje stressed.
He
added that the document envisions that by the year 2025, Kano will be a
prosperous society in which all the citizens are able to realize their
full potentials in a secure and decent environment.
For
ease of implementation and evaluation, the revised plan was refashioned
along six broad objectives including building a fast growing and
diversified economy, creating a framework for people-centered
development and promoting private sector participation in economic
development.
Similarly,
the governor launched the State Action Plan on Women, Peace and
Security, which he said aims to address domestic, sexual and
gender-based violence covering 2016-2019.
Governor
Ganduje stated that the plan reflects his governments’ commitment as
well as accountability in ensuring security of women and girls in the
state and enhancing their active and direct participation in conflict
prevention and peace building.
The
governor explained that its implementation will be funded form the
annual budget of the state Ministry of Women Affairs but would also
leverage on other stakeholders and other sources from the society.
