John 19:26-27
JESUS’ FINAL WORD TO HIS MOTHER
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," John 19:26, NIV
When Louisiana was overwhelmed by a flood, members of the National Guard of USA and their families found themselves temporarily homeless and they had to move to shelter homes. But rather than focusing on their own losses, they were readily rescuing, settling and helping members of their host community.
As Jesus’ breath ebbed away, He summoned strength to say final words that should forever remain with His mother “woman behold your son,” referring to John. Concerned for the future of His mother, Jesus told her that in John she has a son who would fill the vacuum He was leaving behind. Jesus’ pain did not make Him lose sight of an important relationship. Often, personal pains blind us from seeing the pains of others to whom we could have been a blessing. Some folks in our hostels, classes and workplaces are in pains but they seem perfectly okay to us, not because they are pretending, but because we are not seeing beyond our challenges. As we let in God’s comfort into our lives, the Lord expects us to take in other people. Yes, you can lift your head above your painful circumstance and become a pain reliever to others.
• Birthday Blessing: “Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you” Deuteronomy 3:22.

The measure of a Christian is not in the height of his grasp but in the depth of his love. ― Clarence Jordan
