AS the
country battles the current economic recession, President Muhammadu Buhari and
the Senate President are expected to join Christian legislators in the National
Assembly including the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara to offer prayers for the economic
recovery of the country.
This
year’s prayer session, which is the 7th annual National Prayer Breakfast
organised by the Christian lawmakers, is expected to hold at the International
Conference Centre, Abuja, has the theme Tree and its fruits: Is yours a
blessing or a curse to Nigeria.
Briefing
journalists yesterday, President of Christian Legislators Fellowship, Senator
Barnabas Gemade, who was flanked by the Senior Special Assistant to the
President Buhari, Senator Ita Enang and other members of the forum said that
its motivation was to inspire righteousness and godliness in leadership.
Senator
Gemade restated the need for leaders in the country to uphold righteousness as
a virtue in the discharge of their duties, adding that the prayer breakfast was
also aimed at building bridges of unity and engenders harmony and progress.
He
explained that the national prayer breakfast was a world known event and a non
denominational gathering for market place Christians to honour and praise God.
According
to him, “Hence we intend to offer prayers to God to perfect all that concerns
us as a nation and usher us into a new beginning in this season.
“It will
be a cherished opportunity that reminds us that no matter how much responsibility
we have or how fancy our titles or how much power we think we hold, we are
imperfect vessels.
“In a
chaotic world with various challenges, crisis situations, hard struggles and
sufferings, we need God.”
Gemade
further said that apart from President Buhari and the senator Saraki who will
lead the leadership of the National Assembly to the event, other dignitaries
expected will be ministers, members of the diplomatic corps; leaders in
political, religious and economic spheres of the national life.
“We pray
that many patriotic nationals will join us as we pray to God of all creation to
direct our noble cause,” he stated.
