Reno Omokri says EFCC should not have exposed Fani-Kayode’s BVN

Reno Omokri
Ex-Aide on New Media to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has frowned at the Monday action of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against th wife of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.
The EFCC yesterday detained Precious Chikwendu, the wife of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and his son, Aragorn in a bank in Ekiti State.
Omokri said on Tuesday, that it was unprofessional for the anti-graft agency to reveal the secret number attached to Fani-Kayode’s bank accounts.
To him, the EFCC’s decision to publicly disclose Fani-Kayode’s Bank Verification Number, BVN, is not proper.
In a message on his twitter handle, @renoomokri, He said, “Just thinking out loud, but should the EFCC publish anyone’s BVN even if the person is an alleged suspect? Looks like an overkill!”

The EFCC has through a statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren explained why the account had come under scrutiny, and in the process, revealed the BVN.
According to the EFCC’s statement, “The said account, which had a balance of N 2,307,712.82 was flagged following investigation into the PDP Joint Trust fund when the Commission traced N1.1 billion to the Zenith Bank account of Fani-Kayode.
“It was discovered that the account had two biometric identification numbers, one for Fani-Kayode and the other (with BVN 2205597283) for Sonia Chikwendu.
“The same BVN is linked to 2 other accounts in Diamond bank and 15 accounts in Guaranty Trust Bank.”
