Dr Ola Orekunrin is a British-Nigerian healthcare entrepreneur, medical doctor, and pioneer of the first air Ambulance service in Lagos, Nigeria; Flying Doctors Nigeria Ltd which provides urgent helicopter, air plane ambulance and evacuation services in Nigeria and other countries across West Africa. Early Life Dr Ola Orekunrin who hails from Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti State of Nigeria, was born, raised and trained in the UK, where she graduated as one of the youngest medical doctors in England at age 21 is a member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. Presently,a helicopter pilot with specialized training in aviation medicine. Dr Ola lost her sister who became extremely ill on holiday whilst staying with relatives in Nigeria. The local hospital was unable to manage her sickle cell anaemia condition, and as a result, Ola and her family started to search for an air ambulance so that she could be safely transported to a suitable medical facility in the country. The tragedy for the family was that there were no air ambulances to be found, even though the search took them from Nigeria, to Ghana, Sierra Leone and Cameroon, and across West Africa. The only one to be found was in South Africa, 5 hours away, but by the time the logistics had been arranged, Ola’s sister had died of her condition. The real tragedy is that she didn’t die because her condition was unmanageable; she died of a condition that could have been managed with the right medicines in the cupboard of a highly efficient Accident and Emergency hospital ward – it was just a problem of access. Career Ola Orekunrin was motivated to start the charity after experiencing the loss of her sister under difficult circumstances. The death of her sister and the circumstances that caused it, broke Ola’s heart, so she left her job and took the decision to move to Nigeria where she could try to make a difference to the lives of other patients and improving healthcare in the country as a whole. Awards & Nominations She has received several awards and recognition. Some of which include; ThisDay Awards (Contribution to Health in Africa) 2012, The Future Award as ‘Entrepreneur of the year 2012’, NewsDirect Awards as ‘Outstanding Female CEO of the Year 2013’. She is also a TED fellow and has been honoured by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a Young Global Leader. Relationship Dr Ola Orekunrin got married last year to her heartthrob, David in a beach wedding in Lagos. Shola Allyson, is a Nigerian soul and folk singer, and song-writer who came into limelight with the hit album Eji Owuro. The voice coach took to Instagram to share her inspiring story and encourage her fans. In her words: Are you weak and heavy laden? Is there trouble anywhere? Do not be discouraged Take it to The Lord in prayer! There was a time it seemed so lonely in my walk. Nobody around me understood me. I wanted to express myself the way I was inspired. My line of inspiration was unusual, I wasn’t sounding like a regular gifted person should sound. I wasn’t using the popular lines people in my immediate environment used. Not because I deliberately wanted to be that way, but because the things that come into my head from my heart are just like that!!! I was odd. Very very. And so I was despised. Not liked. Disregarded. My own wilderness experience! I was praying. I really prayed. Ha, I prayed. Fasting, biribiri fasting o! Because I knew, still know, that GOD must have a reason for making me that way! I am not a mistake. The things in my head are not against GOD, just that my people hadn’t heard it that way before. I felt discouraged, but hope kept me on. HOPE!!! Then something happened that made some things happen! I don’t know how. I cannot even remember many things now. Some things sha happened. In levels, processes, phases. And here we are. Emi ree o! And things are still happening, still in levels, processes and phases. (The “there” of now cannot be compared to the “theres” that we look forward to!) Be encouraged! Shebi it seems you’re having no result now, abi? It looks like nobody wants to listen to you or consider your own ideas. Nobody even ‘loves’ you! They don’t even appreciate all your efforts. You’ve prayed and prayed, keep on. You’re fasting, keep on. You’ve tried to make them see. You’re angry sef. You’re faithful and obedient, keep on. Be passionate. Be encouraged. Be focussed. Be diligent. Be excellent. As you keep on, adjusting the adjustable, growing and getting better, adding to knowledge, being sharper in the “spiri” tins, something shall happen that will make some things happen! Iwo gan a gba! #Yoo daa! See Photo below: The post ‘My Own Wilderness Experience’- Shola Allyson appeared first on Nigerian Celebrity News + Latest Entertainment News. |
