The Commandant General of the
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu,
says that Muslim and Christians have failed in adhering to the lofty teachings
of Jesus Christ and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). Noting, that it is not
enough to say I am a Christian or I am a Muslim.
The CG made this assertion
in his office when the Two-Faith Religions paid him a courtesy visit at the
NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja.
Evangelist Henry Hillary
National President of the Two-Faith Religion Group in his remarks, thanked the
CG for the warm reception given them, pointing out that it is a fold which embraces
both the Christians and Muslims. It is an offshoot of the Nigeria
Inter-Religious Council, with the aim, to bring the two Religions for
understanding and for them to work together to promote harmony and peace amongst
the two based Faiths and Nigeria in general.
Hillary disclosed that they
are in charge of the Inter Religious Youth Group which is an arm of the Nigeria
Inter-Religious Council.
He said, they came to
partner the Corps to assist them on the summit which they intend to hold on
August 25, 2016, at the NSCDC Premises.
Henry revealed, that the
chief host is the Minister of Interior, while the CG is the host. He again
revealed, that the summit is focused on bridging the gap between Christians and
Muslims by introducing this programme of
' CATCHING THEM YOUNG which is targeted at secondary school students '.
The Group president
maintained, that when they catch them young, they will grow up in Charity
refusing to follow the ways of violence.
The group acknowledged the
Commandant General as a role model, and to this end, would very much like to
partner the NSCDC on the Project of Catch them Young.
The Commandant General in
his response noted emphatically, that Christians and Muslims have failed to
follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Holy Prophet Muhammad. He frowned
at the cantankerous behaviours of both Religion towards one another,
highlighting that it is not enough to proclaim that I am a Christian, I am a
Muslim without adhering to the true practice of Christianity and Islam.
The Leader of the Civil
Defence in a very pensive mood said, according to him, “ Islam means Peace.
Christianity is a way of life. Why the fight all the time between Christians
and Muslims? We should go back to the old times and imbibe the true love of
those olden days. We have to go to the root cause. The bridge being sought to
be built is already there and was never removed. It is political rancour that
is causing this problem ”.
Gana posited that the
summit to be held by the Two-Faith group, to catch them young is very
commendable, assuring that the NSCDC will give them maximum support, as the
young generation need to be disinfected of all forms of religious rancour.
The Corps helmsman charged
the group that they need to visit the North East to see the level of mayhem
unleashed on the people, pointing out, that both Christians and Muslims live in
the IDP camps in the North East.
He applauded the Governor
of Borno state, Kashim Shettima for doing a great job in resettling the people.
Abdullahi admonished that
the children whose parents life were cut short by the insurgents need a very
good re orientation about the Nigerian society, to disabuse their minds of ills
of any kind and this should be done very
quickly.
The CG prayed the Almighty God
that peace should reign in Nigeria.
