The Chairman, Senate Committee on Air force, Senator Duro Faseyi , has boasted that the Peoples Democratic Party will take control of the upper legislative chambers if the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki is removed.Faseyi, who represents Ekiti North senatorial district described Saraki’s trial before the code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged shoddy assets’ declaration, stating that the PDP has the numerical strength to take control of the senate.
He described the controversy surrounding the passage of the 2016 budget as needless, saying the calabar-Lagos rail line that elicited so much furore, was never contained in the original budget estimate submitted before the senate by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Saraki, a member of the All Progressives Congress, is being tried at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged shoddy assets’ declaration.
The senator spoke in Iludun Ekiti yesterday during an empowerment programme he organized for his constituents in Ikole, Ilejemeje, Ido/Osi, Moba and Oye local government areas of the state.
Faseyi, who said he would periodically empowered his people to alleviate poverty distributed items which include; 10 vehicles, 56
tricycles, 27 motorcycles, 224 sewing machine , 280 grinding machines, among others.
Faseyi, two term member of the House of representatives, said :” we have been supporting Senator Saraki since he was elected last year June and this was clear to the whole nation. So, the PDP will surely take over the senate if the APC said they don’t want him”.
On the polarization of the senate into North and south divides by the alleged removal of the calabar-Lagos rail line project from the budget, Faseyi revealed that the scenario was a ploy allegedly devised by APC to whip up sentiment among Nigerians.
“We won’t allow the APC government of President Buhari to make us rubber stamps . We have the constitutional powers to make amendments to the budget and this is contained in the 1999 constitution.
“The budget proposal submitted by President Buhari was fraught with irregularities. There were duplications of projects and several repetitions of figures, which must be corrected. Do they expect us to return the proposal to them the way it was submitted?,” he asked.
Faseyi, who shed more light on the bedlam that surrounds the passage of the budget , added that the inclusion of the Calabar-Lagos project was only sought at the committee level , which he said shouldn’t have been said to have been contained in the original proposal.
The Senator added that the amendments to the budget estimate, which he said some people were mischievously being misinterpreted to mean attempt to derail Buhari’s government was done in the overall interest of the nation.
He said his party, the PDP will continue to offer constructive opposition to APC.
