The Sole Administrator of the
Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro Felix Obuah has charged the
State Environmental Health Officers to ensure Gov Wike’s New Vision of a dirt
free State is taken to the nooks and crannies of the State.
The RIWAMA Sole Administrator
made the charge while hosting Environmental Health Officers who paid him
courtesy visit in his office.
Bro Obuah said the task of
keeping Rivers State clean and habitable is the task of everybody resident in
the State irrespective profession, tribe or ethnicity.
He however expressed regrets
that the door to door inspection of homes, offices and residences by the
environmental health officers is on the decline and charged the health officers
to reactivate the exercise, as well as their statutory serving of abatement
notices to those deserving it.
According to the Sole
Administrator, the State Governor, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike places high premium
on restoring the Garden-City status of Port Harcourt and its environs and will
appreciate all concerned agencies and departments of government to ensure that
this noble objective is realized.
He also charged them to
strengthen their legal department with a view to prosecuting those who have
formed the habit of flouting the sanitation laws of the State and those who
dump refuse indiscriminately on the streets to serve as a deterrent to others.
Speaking earlier, the Head,
Environmental Health of the State Waste Management Agency, Elder (Mrs) Gloria
Obe commended the Sole Administrator, Bro Felix Obuah for providing a conducive
working environment for the workers of the agency.
He also congratulated the
Sole Administrator who is also the State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Chairman
