KANO STATE GOVERNMENT TO ESTABLISH FILM MARKET – GANDUJE



Kano state government is to establish an ultra modern movie market to discourage pirating of films and other intellectual property, the state Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has hinted. 

He gave the indication when the Director - General, National Firm and Video Censor Board, Mrs. Patricia Bala paid him a courtesy call at Kano Government House on Monday, explaining that promoters of the film industry on the state, better known as Kannywood have been requested to scout for an appropriation location to site the market.  

"Already, I have told the Kannywood members to scout for a land within the metropolis where I can build a complex market for them. I want to create a kind of market for them were a fake films would not be allowed to flourish”, Dr Ganduje pointed out.

He said the state government considers film actors and marketers as partners in progress because of the role they played in bring his administration to power and because of their capacity to educate and enlighten the people as well as the role they play in providing jobs for the teeming youths in the state.

“It is because of the role they play in nation building that the immediate past government established the Film Institute at Tiga to train prospective film actors and related professionals in the industry”, the governor stressed.

He promised that the government would engage a consultant that would assist the Kannyhood operators to be more creative and concentrate on promoting Hausa indigenous culture instead of mimicking Indian films. 

Earlier, the Director – General, National Film and Video Censorship Board, Mrs. Patricia Bala said stakeholders in the film industry, with the support of her agency, are in the state to hold a conference titled 'Engaging Industry Players Positively for the Greater Good in a Changing Environment' and commended Kano state Film Censorship Board for its high sense of professionalism.
