Governor
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has expressed confidence in the
capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces to tackle insurgency and restore
peace in the entire North East region of the country.
The governor made the assertion while receiving a Senate delegation led by Bala
Ibn-Na’Alla, who was in the state to commiserate with the state
government and victims of the recent bomb attack which led to loss of
lives, injuries and damage to property at the GSM market, Farm Centre, in Kano metropolis.
Governor Ganduje,
who noted that the renewed war against terrorism in the country is
recording remarkable success, thanked the Senate for providing an
enabling environment for President Buhari to achieve success in tackling
security challenges in the country as well as his war against
corruption.
In
this regard, he thanked members of the delegation for sharing in their
moments of grief, adding that the State Government has accepted the
condolence visit, assuring that the N2 million donations from the Senate
would be judiciously utilized to alleviate the sufferings of the
victims.
In
addition, Ganduje assured that the GSM market would be not only be
rehabilitated but fortified to protect it from attacks by people with
evil intentions.
The
governor used the occasion to disclose that the State is the first
among other states’ to present its 2016 budget in the government’s
efforts of piloting the state to a higher level of political and
economic development.
On
his part, the leader of the Senate delegation, Bala Ibn-Na’Alla,
disclosed that Senators were in the state to commiserate with the state
government and victims of the recent bomb attack which led to loss of
lives, injuries and damage to property.
According
to Ibn-Na’Allah, the Senator representing Kano Central, Engr. Rabi’u
Musa Kwankwaso moved a motion at floor of the Senate Chamber, which
facilitated the condolence visit.
Saying
the Senate was touched by the incident, the Senator prayed to Almighty
Allah to grant repose to those who lost their lives in the bomb blasts
and for speedy recovery of the injured.
He
then commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, whom he described as an
accomplished statesman, whose leadership style is impacting positively
on the people in Kano.
Also
speaking, Senator Barau I. Jibirin, representing Kano North,
commiserated with the government and people of the state on the sad
incident, stressing the need for the people to be more security
conscious.
He
the urged the government of Kano state to shift from depending on
agriculture, to fortify its revenue base for the provision of democratic
dividends, observing that for the first time in recent history, the
Federal Government’s budget has moved away from oil to Agriculture for
generation of revenue for the provision of services to Nigerians.
