As the world observes the
International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Bro. Felix
Obuah felicitates with women in the State and charged them to continue to help
in building good homes and to support the administration of Chief (Barr)
NyesomEzenwoWike in his efforts in enhancing moral family values in the
society.
In a statement signed by
Bro. Obuah’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, the PDP
Chairman described Governor Wike’s gender friendly disposition as second to
none, adding that the Governor not only chose a woman, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry
Banigo as his Deputy but had placed several women in positions of trust in his
administration.
Bro. Obuah added that in
this phase of the nation’s democracy, the place of women in national
development cannot be overemphasized. He
noted that any government which fails to factor in the role of women in
national planning would be doing so at its peril.
The PDP Chairman seized the
opportunity of the International Women’s Day to specially thank Rivers women
for their love and support for the party and the massive votes given Governor
Wike and other PDP Candidates during the 2015 General Elections, and urged them
to replicate same in the State and National Assembly Re-run Elections billed
for March 19, 2016.
The PDP Chairman, Bro. Obuah
enjoined the women to come out in their thousands on the National and State
Assembly re-run election day and cast their votes for all the PDP Candidates.
The State PDP Chairman
further used the occasion of the Mothers’ Day to commiserate with the women of
the Rivers South-East Senatorial District on the gruesome murder of over 17
Ogonis, including pregnant women in Yeghe, Gokana Local Government Area and
Bori, Khana Local Government Area by men of the Nigerian Army on February 22
and 23, 2016, an operation instigated by Magnus Abe and Barry Mpigi.
He stated that voting
massively for all PDP Candidates during the Rerun Election would serve as pay
back for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidates in the State whose
desperation led to the killing of Ogoni children and pregnant women in Yeghe
and Bori and other Ogoni communities.
