JESUS IS THE FULFILLMENT OF
PROPHESIES
The books of the Old Testament
contain many passages about the Messiah—all prophecies Jesus Christ
fulfilled. For instance, the crucifixion of Jesus was foretold in Psalm 22:16-18
approximately 1,000 years before Christ was born, long before this method of
execution was even practiced.
Some Bible scholars suggest there
are more than 300 prophetic Scriptures completed in the life of Jesus.
After the resurrection, preachers of
the New Testament church began to declare officially that Jesus Christ was the
Messiah by divine appointment:
"Let all the house of Israel
therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this
Jesus whom you crucified." (Acts 2:36, ESV)
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus,
called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he
promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy
Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to
the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the
Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our
Lord." (Romans 1:1-4, ESV).
