Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Francis
Mobolaji Odesanya, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC for its efforts to rid the society of economic and financial crimes. The
Police chief made the remark when the EFCC South South Zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu
paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt.
Odesanya said he was happy to hear about the
number of convictions and recoveries that the anti-graft agency has made. However,
he lamented the corrupt tendency of some of our so-called elites which he said
if not checked can destroy the country. “I cannot comprehend how we got to
where we are. And if we are not careful, this thing (corruption) will destroy
us. You cannot wear more than one shirt at a time; you cannot sleep in more
than one room even if you have many houses. I cannot comprehend what is wrong
with the system,” he lamented.
Salihu who led the EFCC team, according to a statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media & Publicity, commended the work
of the Nigeria police. He said the importance of the Nigeria police to the
society cannot be overemphasized. “Nobody can underestimate the work of the
Nigeria police.” he posited. Salihu solicited for further cooperation between
the EFCC and the Nigeria police in order to make the society a better place. He
expressed the EFCC appreciation to the Nigeria police for its support to the
agency while informing the Commissioner and his team of the successes recorded by
the EFCC Zonal office in terms of convictions and asset recoveries.
The visit was witnessed by other senior police
officers including Cyril Okoro and Ahmed Magaji both deputy commissioners of
police; Elisha Yila, and Yemi Adeyemo, both Assistant Commissioners of Police.
