RBT: Psalm 133

THE LORD’S VOICE IN THE STORM

Text: Psalm 29:1-9(1 Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. 3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. 5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,
     Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!")

The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. Psalm 29:4, NLT

The psalmist, in today’s passage, establishes God’s dominion over nature. This particular psalm is a deliberate call upon all creatures to give honour to God. This is borne out of the psalmist’s knowledge of the greatness and the wonders of God which have often been revealed to him through His works. In describing the majesty of God, David insists that God, who created all things should be worshipped and be given glory due unto His name having experience His power over stormy situations of his life. This made him to boldly declare that the fear of the Lord should make us depart from every form of ungodliness. We must realise as God’s chosen people that God is majestic and has not lost control of the world He created. Both the mighty and the lowly converge at His feet and when He thunders, His voice is so dreadful that everything melts before Him (v. 3). Therefore, as believers, we must not fear in the mist of any stormy situation we may be passing through because God will speak on our behalf and we will experience His peace. Let us give glory for this assurance.

Wisdom: God is the Maker of heaven and earth, everything seen and unseen.

Food For Thought: All creatures must acknowledge that God is Mighty.
